Cool, but The museum was closed on a Sunday. To see the conception plaque you have to ask, since they are remodeling. Still a good little photo op.

The birthplace marker is a little hard to find. Once you find it, you will be surprised at how large it is. It's behind a hair salon, and seems like it's in somebody's backyard. A worn banner hanging from a street pole has a very deliberately vague resemblance to the Captain.
The shop was closed when we were there, and nobody even noticed we had been sitting on the park bench placed at the back of the building, pondering the imaginary future.

We first visited the Future Birthplace of James T. Kirk monument, then went to the Voyage Home Museum (aka the Riverside History Center). The famous USS Riverside was not there, and the lady at the museum explained that it was at a parade in a nearby town and should be back "in about 20 minutes."
What to do till then? Go down the street to Murphy's Bar and Grill, go to the back, and look under the pool table. There you will find a plaque that states, "Captain James T. Kirk conceived at this point on June 22, 2227."
