Pheasants on the Prairie: Enchanted Highway
Regent, North Dakota
Pheasants on the Prairie was completed in 1997, and was the first of the Enchanted Highway sculptures to be primarily the single-handed work of Gary Greff. Built of pipe and wire mesh, the Pheasant Family consists of a 40-foot-tall rooster, a 35-foot-tall hen, and three 15-foot-tall chicks. The rooster alone weighs nearly seven tons.
Wild pheasants are a common sight along the Enchanted Highway, and the Regent region is known as a popular spot for pheasant hunters -- so no matter how meta it might look in a snapshot, you probably shouldn't visit the Pheasant Family dressed as a pheasant.
