Tin Farm Family: Enchanted Highway
Regent, North Dakota
The Tin Farm Family -- farmer dad, mom, and son -- was built out of scrap metal and old telephone poles. Mom, 44 feet tall, sports a barbed wire hairdo. The kid, who wears a propeller beanie, licks a lollipop made from the bottom of a flattened fuel tank.
This sculpture, the closest to town along the Enchanted Highway, was the first one built by Gary Greff, starting in 1989. It was completed in 1991. Gary felt that his first sculpture should reflect the region's farming heritage.
Unlike most of the subsequent Enchanted Highway sculptures, this one was built by Gary with help from the town -- assistance that would dwindle over time.
