[Andy, 09/11/2008]Shoe Tree (Grounded):- Address:
- Route 66, Amboy, CA
- Directions:
- Old Route 66, 30 miles west of Ludlow, just east of Amboy, California.
Here's a picture of a shoe tree that's alive and well. This one's identified on your "more shoe trees" page as being in Ludlow, although it's much closer to the Route 66 ghost town of Amboy, California. You'll spot it on the south side of the road, as you head east from Roy's Cafe.
[Daniel Woodrum, 12/31/2007]Two California shoe trees -- so many shoes that two large limbs have broken from the weight of the shoes. These trees are near the crater located out here in the desert.
[Jayne, 10/23/2007]- Amboy, California - Route 66 shoe tree
About 10 miles east of Ludlow, CA is a shoe tree - the first I've ever seen. So far it's only got a couple dozen pairs of shoes, but from the appearance of some of the shoes I'd say they've been accumulating for a number of years.
[Dan Mahoney, 03/03/2003] Roy's is located only about 100 yards from the shoe tree along Route 66 in Amboy, CA. First opened in the 1930's, Roy's was once a busy stop during the golden age of Route 66 in the 50's and 60'a, but has since seen better days. Good news is they now have gas available and a small gift shop inside that sells drinks and snacks and other neat memorabilia. I was happy that they had coke in glass bottles for sale! The motel (located next to the gas station) has a nice fresh coat of paint; I've heard that the new owner has plans to reopen it soon.
