East Garden City, New York: Liftoff for Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis
In 1927 it was Roosevelt airfield; now it's just outside the parking deck of a shopping mall. A stone monument marks the spot, with a dramatic carving of the airplane as it lifted off for Paris.

- Meadowbrook State Pkwy exit M3 E onto Merchants Concourse. Drive north a quarter-mile, cross Corporate Drive, and at the next stoplight turn left onto Traverse Drive. Make the first right into the parking lot; you'll see the monument on that corner, behind the flower bed.

Easy to miss if you do not look carefully. The Monument is mostly hidden behind a large thorn bush. Had to squeeze behind the monument and the thorn bush to capture a photo.
