Museum of the Bizarre
How can you not go into a place with that name? This is a museum that opened in early 2015. We visited just six months after opening and, while still going through some growing pains with a smallish collection, it's worth stopping by.
It has lots of items that are not all that bizarre. Civil war stories are in one section, movie props in another cabinet, then some local history next to that. Around all of that are the bizarre items: lots of animals in jars (some with deformities), a unicorn horn in a case, a large mock-up of a Masonic ritual, a diorama of a local witch legend, and a full-size mermaid. As its motto says, "Of course it's real."
The museum is a nice change from the endless art shops and clothing stores along Wilmington's riverfront; it really is bizarre to find a roadside attraction among the upscale cafes and tourist shops in this district.
Note: They only allow photos in designated picture areas.
