Kentucky Coal Museum
Benham, Kentucky
This mining museum is not underground. It's in the old Company Store of Benham, a coal mining town run by International Harvester until the 1960s. The entire third floor of the four-floor museum is devoted to Loretta Lynn, the "Coal Miner's Daughter," with displays of mementoes and stage dresses.
The basement houses a "Mock Mine" boosted with audio and video from modern coal mines. There's an old coal mine locomotive, photographs of Benham mine accidents, items sold by the Company Store, and a two-ton block of coal outside that serves as a photo-op.
