The M56 Scorpion is not a howitzer. It is a tank destroyer, or self-propelled gun. A howitzer tank has a low velocity gun primarily for firing high explosive ammunition. The M56 has a (relatively) high velocity cannon meant for firing armor piercing ammunition to destroy tanks.
