Roswell UFO Spacewalk
Roswell, New Mexico
In 2006 Larry and Sharon Welz built Spacewalk at Roswell Space Center, a trippy walk-thru black light adventure that took visitors from the dawn of the Atomic Age to the "City of the Future." It closed in 2018.
The attraction space was then taken over by another artist, Bryan Ward, who renamed it Roswell UFO Spacewalk and filled it with his own trippy walk-thru black light adventure. As he described it to us, "You get beamed up by an alien spaceship and then go through outer space -- a wormhole -- to an alien planet and a cave full of mutants, before you make it back to Earth, unscathed!"
Bryan admitted that the similarity in names between the old and new versions of Spacewalk could be confusing, but he feels that the attraction itself has been greatly improved, "with tons of special effects and animatronics." Also, the former gift shop has been turned into a gallery of Bryan's space art, which evokes the luridly-colored science fiction pulp magazine covers and movie poster illustrations of the 1950s. Those giddy retro-visions seem well-suited for a clientele of woozy Roswell spacewalkers.
