Muffler Man: Amish Farmer - Mortimer Snerd
Dallas, Georgia
Type: Halfwit (~14-18 ft. tall)
Arm position: Standard
Accessories: Double-sided Ax
Nickname: Amish Farmer
This Alfred E. Neumann lookalike -- a Happy Halfwit model Muffler Man (in the original International Fiberglass catalog as "Mortimer Snerd") -- started at the Danbury Fair in Connecticut. He was modified in the 1980s with an Amish-style beard, black hat, and a murderous double-bladed ax -- ready for a barn razing?
He was dubbed "Amish Farmer" (we called him "Amish Ax Man") when he stood at Magic Forest in New York State (1987-2018), and was an unsettling goliath deep in the woods along a path that wound past fairy tale dioramas.
After engendering generations of childhood traumas, he was purchased by Mike Whitman in Dallas, Georgia, who had him restored in 2019 to his classic Mortimer Snerd configuration. He now stands with other Muffler Men at Whitman's plumbing business. The Bunyan next to him does all the ax-holding.
