Theodore Roosevelt Island
Was there in June 2014, parked nearby along the Mount Vernon trail and George Washington parkway. The island is recently restored, with about 2 miles of forested walking trails and marshy boardwalks. The main path in the center of the island has the huge statue, some quotes on large stone walls, and a few non-working water fountains/pools. Would like to see the water features fixed; some park rangers said there's no budget currently for the maintenance, so it's turned off year round.
[Toby, 07/25/2014]Theodore Roosevelt Island
Theodore Roosevelt Island reflects the president's lifelong enjoyment of the outdoors. Three trails showcase designed wildlife habitats: the Swamp Trail, Woods Trail, and Upland Trail. A memorial plaza includes quotes that capture Roosevelt's ideas about nature, manhood, youth, and the state. I love to read all the enormous stones with Roosevelt quotes on them. He was an inspiring man.
