Gary, Indiana: Birthplace of Michael Jackson

Gary, Indiana is unlikely to make anyone's list of the world's most idyllic vacation spots. But two enterprising Chicago entrepreneurs have convinced scores of music-loving tourists to undertake a four-hour peek at the bleak by booking a spot on their "King of Pop Hometown Tour."

The lock collection on the birthplace home fence is growing, and all the signs are filled with signatures and well wishes.

No memorial stone anymore, but inside each gate there are plaques on the ground. The front of the fence has a lock collection starting and the side has white boards to sign.

Less than five minutes right off I-80. Easy to find. It's definitely not in a good neighborhood, though. Still worth swinging by to check out. This house and the one next to it is very well-maintained. We did not get out of our car. We just stopped in front and took a couple of pictures and kept going.

I'm glad that that I went, although it's not a nice neighborhood. When I was there a handful of others were visiting as well. Later in the day, elsewhere in Indiana, I met a gentleman who told me that Mrs. Jackson still owns the house and the house next door, and visits every so often.
