Giant coffee pot was made of galvanized steel in 1941 as a symbol of Washington Island hospitality and ingenuity. Can be found at the roadside close to the ferry terminal at Detroit Harbor. It has a door and two windows, and was originally used as a store and then as a tourist information booth, but now is just a local landmark.

The island's Girl Scout troop dreamed up this perky Norwegian "Velkommen" coffee pot as their fundraising hub, and it was built in 1941 by Thorvald Johnson and Ervin Gunnlaugson, according to the accompanying sign. It served as a visitor info booth until 1996, and was moved to this spot in 2005 as a preserved landmark of Washington Island history.
