A giant badger head and claws -- what's left of a classic roadside statue -- now emerges from the ground as greeter for a strip club.

World's Largest Badger
I visited the World's Largest Badger in September. I almost drove by it -- there is a stockade fence in front of it. The exotic bar is for sale, but you can still drive in the parking lot for a look. The fence has a large scallop cut in front of the badger so you can see his paws and top of his head.

Most do not know the World's Largest Badger was originally created to overlook a small game farm. There was once a fishing pond, geese, mini golf course and a whitetail deer farm settled just beyond the giant log and squirrel. The badger was atop what is now a strip club but was once a gift store, video store and gas station. The gift store had local crafts and food (including cheese and local maple syrup). Above this store, in where the badgers (once even larger) body use to be, was room for a small home.
Unfortunately, the local spectacle of nature shifted from that of wild animals to wild women. This was mostly due to the fact that the strip club had to relocate from the nearby town of Aniwa because it was a block from the only school and church in town, and locals residents were upset by its location.
Although "The Badger," as we called it, is still an attraction to many today, I will always remember the deer and geese you could feed while mom and dad filled up the Chevy.

The badger's still there, still buried up to his neck, but the owners of the "Northern EXposure" exotic dance club have erected a fence in front of him. So he's not quite as visible from the road, and it's a bit more difficult to get pictures with him, too. The giant log with the squirrel on top is still there, too, but looks like it's just being used as a storage garage or something. But hey -- he's still there, and that's what matters, right? :+)

The "Badger Country" gas station (2 miles south of Behn's!) has been converted to an "Exotic Dance" club. The pumps have been removed from the log under the squirrel, and the area is used as a truck garage. The Badger has been removed from the roof and planted in the driveway in front. There, it rises from the dirt to menace passing traffic. On a positive note, it's now easier to pose in front of for those obligatory vacation photos.
