- Big Bear Lake, California - Shoe Tree
The Shoe Tree of Big Bear is on Highway 18, near Baldwin Dry Lake, just 1 mile from Big Bear Lake. While the local seniors try to "undecorate" the tree (to prevent it from dying from all the weight, they say), shoe tossers manage to have enough on outlying branches to prevent total removal. And each spring, new shoes blossom.

The shoe tree was cut down on October 10, 2017.
[Denise Clark, 11/03/2017]The highway dept. cut down the tree, it said, because most of the tree was dead, and officials were fearful that it might collapse and hurt someone. The shoes were saved, briefly, in case anyone wanted to return and pick them up.
Close-up.
[Brad Wartman, 03/20/2015]The shoe tree appears to be in the healthiest part of its cycle (few shoes on the ground, full footwear foliage above).
